SNAP: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

SNAP, formerly food stamps, is a federal program administered by the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Services.

We're now accepting SNAP benefits and giving shoppers who use them extra money to spend at the Market on approved items.

Here's how it works

  • Bring your SNAP card to the blue Market tent.
  • The manager will phone in for verification and give the shopper certificates to shop with.
  • We will double the shopper's SNAP benefits up to $25. Example: If you planned to spend $10, we'll double that and give you certificates worth $20! Matching funds come from a grant from the Mass Department of Agricultural Resources.
  • Get full details at the Market Managers' tent at the Belmont Farmers' Market.

Funding and support for matching SNAP benefits come from a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) and the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA).

Where to use SNAP benefits

Shop anywhere that accepts SNAP benefits. Farmers' markets that accept SNAP benefits include: Central Square & Harvard Square in Cambridge, Lexington, Quincy, Union Square in Somerville, Copley Square in Boston, Waltham and others.
